Foam Tape – Single Sided products

Single-sided foam tape carries adhesive on one face only, leaving the foam side bare to do the sealing work. It is what you reach for when the foam needs to be fixed to one part and pressed against another, which covers gasketing, weatherstripping, cushioning, anti-rattle padding and gap filling. My Tape Store supplies single-sided foam in polyurethane, polyethylene and PVC nitrile, so you can match the foam to the surface, the gap and the conditions. Buy online for delivery Australia-wide.

How single-sided foam tape works

The adhesive side bonds the tape to one surface and stays there. The open foam face is then compressed by the second surface as the assembly closes, taking up the tolerance between the two parts and helping to block dust, draughts, rattle and moisture. Because nothing is bonded to that second surface, panels, lids, doors and covers can still be opened, removed and refitted as often as the job requires.

Choose the right foam for the job

The three foams in this collection behave quite differently under compression and in exposure, so the material usually matters more than the thickness when you are specifying a seal.

  • Polyurethane (PU) foam tape is open cell, soft and highly compressible, so it closes up uneven or generous gaps under very light pressure. It suits dust sealing, light weather sealing and acoustic damping, where a firmer foam would hold the joint open.
  • Polyethylene (PE) foam tape is closed cell and firmer, which makes it water resistant through the body of the foam. It is the sensible pick for gasketing and cushioning where moisture is part of the picture and the joint can apply a bit more pressure.
  • PVC nitrile foam tape is closed cell with good resistance to oils and many chemicals, which is why it is widely used for HVAC duct and plant sealing and for automotive sealing work. Ours is supplied in black.

Typical applications

  • Gasketing and sealing around enclosures, covers, hatches and access panels.
  • Weatherstripping on doors, windows, cabinets and site huts to keep out draughts, dust and water.
  • Anti-rattle and anti-vibration padding between panels, trims and mounted components.
  • Gap filling where two parts do not meet cleanly and the tolerance has to be taken up.
  • Cushioning and protecting finished surfaces against knocks, scratches and point loads.
  • Sound damping inside enclosures, ducting and vehicle interiors.

Custom sizes, die-cut shapes and bulk orders

Stock sizes cover widths from 6mm to 48mm, with thicknesses of 3, 5 and 10mm in polyethylene, 3, 6, 9 and 12mm in PVC nitrile, and 6mm in polyurethane. Tell us the width, length and thickness you are after and we will work out the options with you. We also handle die-cut shapes for repeat production work such as washers, frames and pads, and we price bulk quantities for trade and manufacturing buyers. Send through your drawing or specification and our team will take it from there.

Why buy single-sided foam tape from My Tape Store

  • Three foam chemistries held in stock, open cell PU, closed cell PE and closed cell PVC nitrile, so the seal can be matched to the gap and the conditions.
  • Thicknesses from 3mm to 12mm and widths from 6mm to 48mm, which covers most sealing and cushioning work off the shelf.
  • Custom slitting and die-cut shapes when a stock size will not do.
  • Bulk pricing for trade, maintenance and production accounts.
  • Delivery Australia-wide, from metropolitan addresses through to remote locations.

Not sure whether PU, PE or PVC nitrile is the right starting point? Send the details of your joint, the gap and the conditions to info@mytapestore.com.au and we will point you to a suitable option. If you need adhesive on both faces instead, have a look at our double-sided foam tape and glazing tape ranges, or browse the full foam tape collection.

FAQs

  • Single-sided foam tape has adhesive on one face only, so it fixes to one surface and seals against the other by compression. Double-sided foam tape carries adhesive on both faces and is used to bond two parts together. If the joint has to come apart again, single-sided is usually the right choice.
